Does Kentex Cargo sell barrels?
Yes, we sell 55-gallon barrels. Each one costs $50 plus a $50 deposit. When you come in to buy a barrel, you leave us with $100. $50 is a promise that you are going to turn the barrel in for ocean shipping.
You're going to call us to come and pick it up for shipping. $50 will be applied towards your shipping invoice once you have brought the barrel back for shipping.
In an event where you just want the barrel without shipping with us, the cost is prohibitive: $100 per barrel. This is strategic because we are not in the business of selling barrels; we are in the business of shipping.
At $50 for a 55-gallon barrel, we are actually losing $10 if you just come and get the barrel at $50 and do not return. We only make money when we ship that barrel.
Do you sell 72-gallon barrels?
Our Delaware warehouse has 72-gallon barrels. They are $75 apiece. When you pick it up, you have to leave us with $150. Once you return the barrel, $75 goes towards the cost of shipping. The same logic applies to a 55-gallon barrel.
Do you accept other barrels other than the above?
Yes, you can come with any other barrel you might find out there. We charge $6 per gallon, with a minimum charge of $150.
What are the best things to package in a barrel?
A barrel's cylindrical shape limits what you can put inside. However, a barrel offers such a sturdy cushion for your fragile shipment that it becomes the best container to ship when you're shipping things that can break and pour.
If you are shipping tableware and breakables, definitely go with the barrel. If you are shipping shoes and clothes, the barrel will not give you the best bang for your buck.
You are better off using a wardrobe box or a short wardrobe box. This is because the shape of the box allows you to package more items and arrange them tightly inside a box better than in a cylindrical barrel.
Do I have to have a padlock on my barrel?
You do not have to. You can put one if you feel like, but you don't have to. Customs have the liberty to open any container they want to for inspection purposes. Putting a padlock cannot stop customs in any country from opening your container. You can do it for peace of mind, but we make sure your items and your shipment are protected.
