Cost of shipping a 20-foot container from the U.S. to Kenya

If you read about the cost of shipping a 40-foot container from the U.S. to Kenya, you can be very comfortable subtracting about $1,500 from any cost listed there. 

1. The tracking cost will not change between a 40 ft and a 20 ft container. There is virtually no difference.

2. The chassis rental charges will not change between a 40 ft and a 20 ft container. It is virtually the same.

3. The shipping lane cost difference between a 40 ft container and a 20 ft container is usually under $1,000.

 

20 ft containers are best for very heavy merchandise, not necessarily for somebody who does not have a lot of items to ship. If you have less than a 40 ft container, just let us know. 

We probably would get you a cheaper cost through consolidation or container groupage, where we put several people with less than a container load in your container and clear all of them on a single bill of lading in Kenya. 

The final destination in Kenya also determines a lot of the cost of your shipment. For example, from Mombasa all the way to Kisumu or a place like Meru would cost you around KES 200,000. 

On the other side, somebody who resides in Mombasa would only have to pay for local haulage of that container from the port to their home, which should be less than KES 50,000. 

It all tells you that there is no off-the-shelf cost of shipping a 20-foot container or a 40-foot container from the U.S. to Kenya.
