The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are not entirely new – they have been around for a couple of years. It is so ‘old’ that Apple has stopped producing new units.
However, you can get these phones from US stores like Amazon and we'd deliver for you in Kenya for a little as $15.
iPhone 7 and the bigger iPhone 7 Plus are significant upgrades from the junior models – the iPhone 6S and 6S plus. At first glance, the noticeable difference between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is the size. However, when you look closely, there are other less obvious but significant differences.
We will consider these differences and upgrades in the latter part of this article. But let us start with the specifications.
The specifications are presented in the table below for easy comparison.

From the table above, it is clear that the iPhone 7 Plus has a slightly better battery. So, you will get longer stand by time (up to 16 days) from the iPhone 7 Plus and about ten days from the smaller iPhone 7.
Another notable difference is the RAM. The iPhone 7 has 2GB, while the iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB of RAM. There is no much difference in performance despite the variation in RAM, thanks to the same 2.3 GHz A10 Fusion chip with 64-bit architecture on both phones.
Both phones are shipped pre-installed with iOS 10 and upgradable to iOS 13. But when upgraded to iOS 13, the phones do not support the Adjust Portrait Lighting and High-Key Mono photography features. The updated phones also miss out on the Dolby Atmos playback, Motion Capture, and People Occlusion.
The cameras in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are different, with the latter emerging as the much better option. The iPhone 7 has a 12 MP rear camera with a 28-mm wide-angle lens and an f/1.8 aperture. For the 7 MP front camera, the aperture is f/2.2, with automatic image stabilization.
The iPhone 7 Plus has all these and more – a 12 MP rear camera. The other camera on the rear is a 56mm telephoto lens with an f/2.8 aperture that allows zooming up to 10x without loss in clarity.
You have a 4.7-inch screen in the iPhone 7, with a resolution of 1,334 x 750 pixels and 326 PPI. This is the same as what the iPhone 6S sports. However, the iPhone 7 Plus has a bigger screen – a 5.5-inch display with a Full HD and a resolution of 1,920 x 1,090 pixels and 401 PPI. Both are Retina HD LED Screens with 25% more brightness and a wider color gamut. So, the only difference here is the size of the screens.
Both phone models are available in three different variants, according to the internal storage capacity. You can go for either the 32GB, 128GB, or 256GB of internal storage. Talking about the colors, Apple formally released the 128 GB and 256 GB in Jet Black color. However, in September 2017, Apple stopped producing the 256 GB capacity in all colors, while introducing a 32 GB capacity in Jet Black.
Other colors variants include rose gold, gold, silver, and black.
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus currently retails at $350 and $450 for the most basic 32GB model. The price points of each model and variant are listed below;
Model | Internal Storage | New Models |
Apple iPhone 7 | 32GB | $350 |
128GB | $450 | |
256GB | $550 | |
Apple iPhone 7 Plus | 32GB | $470 |
128GB | $570 | |
256GB | $670 |
Are you curious about the prices of the refurbished versions of these phones? Not to worry, the differences in price are negligible, considering that you will hardly find a brand-new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus at the moment.
So, if you do not have a large budget for an iPhone, the iPhone 7 series is worth consideration.
The best option would have been a more recent iPhone model – they are simply better in all ramifications. However, if you have a soft spot for the iPhone 7 series, the iPhone 7 Plus is clearly the better option. You get a bigger screen, a slightly better camera, a longer battery life, and more RAM. The iPhone 7 is a more compact option. It is easier to move around; it fits into your front jeans pocket easily. Whichever option you end up going for, rest assured you are getting a device that offers maximum for every penny spent.
